Life has a way of changing things up on you....I'm not home and won't be home for several days unfortunately. Briella has been pretty sick most of our trip and it got really bad the morning we were supposed to leave (she lost a lot of blood) and not to be gross but the morning we were supposed to leave she woke up with her diaper completely full of blood. We took her to the ER and Jeff and Tyler traveled back to South Carolina. She also has developed 50+ bright red lesions all over her body, her joints are swollen, and her gums, lips and mouth have been bleeding and she hasn't been able to walk (I think her joints just hurt too bad). They have diagnosed her with a disease called HSP ( Henoch-Schönlein Purpura). Kinda rare so I'm so glad that we're being treated at the Children's Hospital in Phoenix where they have specialized care. Seeing my little girl in this much discomfort is heart-breaking but I know that she will get over this rough time and that she's in good, caring hands. Anyway, we've been in the hospital for 3 days and it sounds like we won't be going to South Carolina till after the weekend. I just wanted to keep you all posted since I mentioned posting pictures and session sneak peeks soon. Thanks to those of you who have sent me e-mails and left sweet comments on my blog after hearing she was sick ;-) You're thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Oh Kara my heart is breaking for little Briella and for your entire family. I've never heard of that disease before. Please know that I am crying out to God on Briella's behalf. I pray He give you all the comfort that only He can give and that the doctors do whatever it takes to speed her recovery. Praying for you all here in Michigan!
Kara, Please know that you, Briella, and the rest of your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I have three children myself, so I can only imagine what you must be feeling.

I just searched to find out more about what your daughter is going through! It must be so scary to watch your little one in pain. From what I read it is something that just has to go away on it's own. Please know I am thinking of you and your family. My prayers are with you all. God Bless. Jenny

Well, I'm starting to see a twinkle of my little b coming back. She actually ate a bit o dinner tonight - I was thrilled. She also wanted to 'cheers' me before taking a sip of her water (her little routine)and she's getting a little sassy. All signs that she's on the upswing. This disease just runs it's course so she doesn't need any meds except for pain medications and meds for other aspects brought on by the illness like bladder infection meds, etc. Such a strange disease... a lot of the med students here have been coming into our room (since this is 'teaching' hospital) in groups of 4 to 8 to look at her, exam her and ask questions. I figure the more they learn about it and the more care she gets, the better. Anyway, thank you all again soooooo much for your support, thougts and prayers. You don't know how much it means to me. I'm so lucky to have such caring blog friends. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again you all!

On a lighter note, I was looking at your work and it is AMAZING. I love your style! Then I realized why. You're a Seattlite! I was born and raised on the East Side (Bellevue/Redmond). Us Northwesterners have to stick together!

I work at WaMu in Capital Markets, here in Florence. Someone had told me a while back that 'Jeffs wife' was a photographer and gave me your website. I was amazed when I saw your work! I would love to see about scheduling a session for my 4yr old sometime, possible a family session too. I was shocked to read about what happened with your little girl! Oh....MY.....Kara...I'm so sorry about Brielle. I noticed that you had not posted anything in a while and thought that you might be on vacation. Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We spent quite a lot of time at Children's here in San Diego with Gavin and they took such good care of him and I'm sure that they will be just as wonderful there. I will check back for an update. Kara, my thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is for a mom (and dad too) to see her child hurt and not be able to fix her pain. I pray that little Briella will be healed. I know you were at the right place for something like that to happen so she can received the best care possible. Keep us updated when you can.
